FROM THE SENIOR REGENT

Can you believe it is July already? We have the privilege of celebrating our country’s freedom. The 4th of July commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, which declared the original colonies to be free from British rule.
As a reminder, the Moose fireworks stand will be open July 1, 2, 3 from 10am - 10pm and July 4 from 10am - 8pm. The location is 6060 Orangethorpe, Buena Park. (Valley View and Orangethorpe). Come get your celebration fun and support the Moose.
We have an exciting activity planned on July 20th - Tour De Moose. See Mary Lou for the details and locations. Our all you can eat brunch is back on July 21st and BINGO to follow. (funds raised go to repairing our parking lot) And don’t forget our bake sale on July 5th.
Tell your friends and family about how fun our moose members are and take part in our fundraisers to help Mooseheart and Moosehaven.
FUN FACTS:
- around 150 million hot dogs are consumed on the Fourth of July
- Americans spend $1 billion on fireworks
- July is, on average, the warmest month of the year in the northern hemisphere. In the
southern hemisphere though, July is, on average, the coldest month of the year.

Happy New Moose Year My Friends,

Time flies, doesn’t it?  It’s already time for a new year and some of our officers have changed.  I’m very excited to take on the role of Senior Regent and follow a great role model, Veronica Gilbert.   Thank you Veronica for all that you have accomplished over this past year.

We are starting the new year with a fundraiser by Silvana Hernandez.   On May 5th , Silvana will be hosting a “Cinco de Drinko” event with street tacos, dessert, raffle baskets and 50/50.   Don’t miss out on this fun time!  Also, remember we have the bake sale the first Friday of each month, this month it’s the 2nd Friday.  Those goodies are wonderful!  Also, don’t forget our monthly brunch and bingo.  This bingo is to support our new parking lot.  Come and have fun and raise funds to get that new parking lot.

This year will be full of fun sharing and caring, maybe even some educational times and just over all sharing with each other.  Please bring your ideas to me on events you would like to host for our fundraising activities for Mooseheart and Moosehaven.

Let’s make our time at the Moose memorable and something we can be proud of in our everyday lives.   Be sure to tell your friends and family to join us at the Moose to have fun and be proud of what we do every day to help others.

I would like to carry on Veronica’s monthly quote idea.  So here’s the first one:

Work and Play – “Work and play are words used to describe the same thing under different conditions.”  - Mark Twain

Make it a great month!

APRIL 2024

FROM THE PRESIDENT

Hello Brothers and Sisters,

This letter is bittersweet as it is my last one as President.

I want to thank each and everyone of you for entrusting me with the Fraternal Leadership of the Lodge for the past two years.

Without all of you, we would not be where we are today.

Our work is not done quite yet, as we still have one month of the Moose year to go. We need to make a final, HUGE push for membership to get to our +one for the year!

The big one to come from the mid-year convention was that International is hard at work determining the CORRECT procedure to move forward regarding the higher degrees for both men and women. They are still in the infancy portion of this process, so please be patient and the leaders will information along as we receive it.

Thank you all again and let’s finish the Moose year stronger than ever.

 As always fraternal,

 David

FROM THE SENIOR REGENT

 Hello Moose family,

I would like to invite you all to join us on Sunday April 7th at 1:30pm to have some fun and play Bingo. Our chair Mary Lou has been working very hard getting this event ready for our monthly fundraiser for Mooseheart. Don’t forget our bake sale on Friday April 5th.

My term as Sr. Regent is coming to an end. I would like to thank the wonderful team of women for all their support and guidance.  our chapter do all the amazing things we accomplished this term. I would also like to thank the Lodge members for all the support and participation we received from them. I know this chapter will continue to achieve great things.

Develop an attitude of gratitude and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation.” -Brian Tracy

October 2021

FROM  THE PRESIDENT

Hello Brothers and Sisters!

As many of you realize, I have been making a point of stopping comments recently on some of our Facebook posts. There has been an alarming trend of members sharing information that should not be shared on social media. Additionally, with the recent break-in, many members began speculating and making claims on Facebook without any firsthand knowledge. All Lodge business is to be handled during our meetings and not on Facebook. Here is a guideline of other items that shouldn’t be on social media (not just for the lodge but personally as well) to keep us safe.

Don’t post personal or private information online!

Be wary of others

Before posting anything online, remember the maxim “what happens on the web, stays on the web”

As a reminder, our Facebook page is for pictures and reminder of activities and events. The administrators of the page have been asked to ensure any posts not meeting this criteria be removed going forward. All Lodge business is to be handled at the Lodge meetings. There are 2 meetings per month that are open to all up to date members. This is also where we discuss communications from Moose International. The page administrators have also been asked to notify any member in violation of the policy why and stop comments. Continued violations will result in having commenting restrictions for that member.

Rock The Cradle

October is "Cradle" month to benefit our children at Mooseheart. We celebrate the children at Mooseheart in October with the Cradle Fundraiser and every February we celebrate our seniors at Moosehaven with the Rocker Fundraiser. All money collected will go into the Endowment Fund. This fund is the security that if anything ever happens to the Moose Fraternity, our seniors and children will continue to be taken care of. Let’s Rock the Cradle this month

Building Fund

We have begun a new building fund committee, anyone wishing to join the committee and help raise funds to do improvements to our lodge home, please reach out to any lodge officer, we’d love to have others involved.

Fraternally,

Russ Duke
President

FROM  THE PRESIDENT

Hello Brothers and Sisters! The past couple months have been a whirlwind for me and I want to start off with a special thank you to everyone for their understanding as I was unable to update the website as quickly as I like to normally. Kelley and I are extremely tahnkful to those of you who took time out of your busy schedules to come help us pack, load items and even drive our belongings across 3 states! We could never be more thrilled to have such wonderful friends and fellow Moose Members as all of you.

Couple of catch-up items:

Thank you to Mike Conway for once again runiing an extremely successful fireworks stand fundraiser!

Susie, thank you for all your hard work keeping the newsletter up to date and out to everyone, along with the updates each week on our Facebook page.

Each and everyone of the volunteers in the kitchen making our special dinners, our Moose Legion, Women Of The Moose, Vets and each of the officers that have taken time to prepare meals, help serve, come do inventory, clean and so many other wonderful things behind the scenes that most don’t know about.

A special thanks to Martha Warren for coming and working on the yard of the Lodge. She was doing this early in the morning because she didn’t want recognition, I want to give a thank you to you because it is these types of things that make us Moose Proud!

Progress is also being made to get our app made available to everyone via Apple or Andriod stores. We are pushing to have it ready within the next month or two. Susie has been sending out facebook reminders for weekly events so if you haven’t joined the page please do so, you don’t want to miss out on these great reminders. Also, please also add Susie’s email to your contacts to ensure you get the newsletter, it is adminassistant@moose1945.org

Don’t forget to signup for our newsletter if you haven’t already directly from our website! The state convention will be coming up next month. We are going to be handling the audio visual for facebook live coverage if you’d like to attend virtually.

Please stay safe as COVID-19 cases have been on the rise. We want all of our members to remain healthy and well.

Fraternally,

Russ Duke

If you have any ideas please bring them up at one of our upcoming meetings. I am also looking for volunteers to help create a fundraising committee for our building fund. If interested please reach out via email or in person. My email is president@moose1945.org

FROM  THE PRESIDENT

Hello Brothers and Sisters! We begin a new beginning of Moose this month as One Moose! I’m extremely excited to share this new and exciting beginning and look forward to us being “Stronger Together”. Stronger together means so much more than just a campaign slogan, it means sharing and collaborating as we move forward to build up our membership, make improvements to the lodge and most importantly build our community through our mission. This past year was an extremely difficult year for all of us, emotionally, physically, and finically. I want to take a moment to thank everyone for the hard work and dedication during this past year as we dealt with COVID dealing a setback no one could have foreseen. A special thanks to the past board and our previous Governor Mike Conway. He made the best out of a horrible situation and led the lodge into getting the back-room remodel under way. Yes, we still have work to do but the majority is completed and looking great! Not to mention the hundreds of hours he has worked on this himself.

This next year brings us opportunities to build the lodge numbers back up and reach out more into our community. We are beginning a new committee to bring the family back into the family fraternity, I have asked Jonelle Weiss to head up the Family Aspect Committee. If you would like to help with this committee, please let her, Donnie or I know. We have many more things planned throughout this year and I look forward to sharing these with you as we move forward together as one.

Fraternally,

Russ Duke
President

FROM  THE SENIOR REGENT

Hello Ladies.  I hope all is well with you and your families.  I want to introduce myself as your new Senior Regent, my name is Denise Bond.  I look forward to having a great year with lots of fundraising and fun.  If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Denise Bond

The 2020-21 year for our Chapter and the Moose fraternity, came with many challenges and frustration, but it also showed the strength of our chapter and our ability to stay resilient and focused on our mission.  It sparked creativity in finding new ways to continue our fundraising efforts no matter how small, and we still made a difference, and had growth with many new members joining our chapter.  Thank you for allowing me to serve as your Senior Regent for 2020-21.  I would like to thank the WOTM Officers, Committee Chairs and those regularly attending meetings amid the pandemic, past Governor Mike Conway and everyone who attended our events and supported the WOTM during this challenging year.  I wish the best of luck and love to my dear friend and "sister" Denise Bond as your new Senior Regent.

Fraternally Yours,

Jennifer Barnes

Welcome back Moose family!

FROM  THE ADMINISTRATOR

After a tough year, it is great to see the lodge getting back to where we were before. Our Fridays are once again filled with great people, Karaoke and Queen of Hearts.  We just installed our new officers who are all eager to continue serving and making a better experience for all. Although we are grateful for new members, our membership is down. We want our lodge to grow. Please continue to sign up friends and family.  If you know someone who has not paid their dues, reach out to them and encourage them to come back.  We are always striving to make this a better place and would love to see more people get involved. Please see the calendar for meetings or ask an Officer how you can help.

Thank you all for your support.

The best Moose Family ever...

April 2021

FROM  THE GOVERNOR

It is nice to see that things are getting back to somewhat normal and having everyone back at the lodge again.  Thank you to all that have been supporting us during this difficult time.  We have karaoke back again and starting the first Friday in April.....the Queen of Hearts will be back....so come on down and try your luck!  We had our mid-year conference this weekend and there was plenty of information that was talked about regarding our transition to ONE MOOSE starting May 1st, 2021.  Look for more information on what was talked about at www.mooseintl.org.  The back room is still a work in progress and hopefully will be up and running in the near future as long as we control this Covid-19 sickness and Orange County gets into the lower color tier.

This will be my last article as Governor.  It has been a privilege to have served as the Governor of the Buena Park Moose Lodge.  Even though we did not do a lot this last year due to the pandemic, we did all that we could and we did our best.  I want to thank all of my officers for being a part of my board of officers and for what they did to help support the lodge.  I look forward to working with whoever the new Governor will be and helping with my continued support.  Thank you for all you do to help support our lodge and remember to stay safe and check on one another.

Fraternally yours,

Mike Conway

The WOTM will continue to function as an auxiliary group as will the Moose Legion.  The WOTM will continue to have their own membership dues in addition to the Lodge dues, however the subsequent three years of WOTM renewal dues will be waived after May 1, to help compensate for the new Lodge dues.  In order to remain a WOTM co-workers will have to pay the annual lodge dues and the WOTM dues (to be reduced from current rate of $35) in order to continue to participate in the WOTM, receive honors or hold officer positions.  The mission of the WOTM will continue to focus on our fundraising committees and community service projects.

There will be four fundraising committees with respective chairmen; Mooseheart/Moosehaven, Higher Degree, Membership Retention, and Community Service that will hold 12 events/fundraisers during the year.

NEW MEMBER Promotion!  Currently new members pay a $20 registration fee and $35 annual membership fee to become a WOTM. For the next 20 NEW members, our chapter will be waiving the $20 registration fee.  Join before May 1, and NEW members will be able to benefit from the three-year renewal waiver of WOTM dues.

Our Chapter is offering a one-time opportunity for a 50% rebate on a lifetime membership IF PAID BY MARCH 15! This promotion can only be offered for this short period of time due to the start of ONE Moose, HOWEVER, it will also include lifetime membership to ONE MOOSE, THAT’S two for HALF the price of ONE!  After May 1, lifetime membership rates will be at the lodge rate which can be as much as $1,200 (sliding scale).  Contact one of your WOTM Officers for more information.

FROM  THE GOVERNOR

As you all know, we have started to slowly get the Lodge back into somewhat of a normal state.  I would like to thank everyone who has been coming back in to support the lodge during this time of hardship.  Your health and safety always should come first.... the Moose will always be here for you.

The back hall is coming along nicely, just a little more work to go.

I know that some of you do not know yet, but we lost a couple of more members.  Marine Bob, Bob Kari passed away.  Our prayers go out to his family.

We will be going back to our wonderful dinners AND having the Karaoke back starting the first Friday of March.  I hope to see a lot of familiar faces come and have some fun.  We have some other events coming up so please check out the event calendar section of this newsletter.

Thank you all for all you do.

FROM  THE GOVERNOR

Hello Brothers and Co-workers,

It is a New Year and hopefully things will get better for all of us.  We are going to start having drive-thru dinner and drinks on Fridays.  Yes, there will some tables and chairs for those that wish to stay and wait outside or you can wait in your vehicle.

The upgrades are coming along in the back hall and in the hallways.....things are moving along.

We need to make sure that we are staying in touch with ALL of our members to make sure they are safe and doing well......and to reach out to the members who's dues have expired.  I know that times are tough right now, but anything we can do to help each other and our Lodge will be appreciated by all.

Hopefully we will be back open soon and we can all get back to being together again.

Stay safe

Membership campaigns are created and implemented by the Membership Department at Moose International. Annual Membership Campaigns typically run from May 1 to April 30 and have a unique theme each year.

This year’s Annual Membership Campaign is “One Moose,” which runs from May 1, 2020 to April 30, 2021. During 2018 and 2019, the Moose Fraternity heard more and more members expressing the opinion that women and men needed an equal voice, vote and leadership opportunity within the Lodge. Would Moose International be so bold as to create a new Moose organization and by-laws that allowed for this equal representation? The answer is a resounding “YES”!

We believe that we work best when we do it together! Therefore, our 2020-21 “One Moose” campaign theme proclaims that we are committed to work together as one, despite our differences and our gender. “One Moose” is more than just a campaign slogan; it’s how we need to approach our mission in order to be successful and continue to create our future.

September 2020

FROM  THE GOVERNOR

Hello Brothers and Co-workers,

Here we are going into September and still dealing with this "NEW NORMAL"  in our day to day lives.  I want to thank everyone for their continued support and for all you do to help our Lodge, our seniors and our kids at Mooseheart.

The back hall of the Lodge is in the painting stage....good job to all that have helped.

It is with sadness and heartbreak to announce that Ernie Sudberry has been taken to his final reward.  Let us send good thoughts and prayers to his family.

Thank you again for all you do and hope that you all stay safe and healthy.

Fraternally,

Mike Conway

FROM  THE SENIOR REGENT

Co-workers,

The Women of Chapter 828 are continuing our efforts and mission to support Mooseheart, Moosehaven and our community, even during these challenging times. For our community project for September we have chosen Precious Life Shelter in Los Alamitos, who provide a safe, healthy, loving environment with supportive services for homeless pregnant adult women and their children.  At each of our meetings in September the 8th & 22nd, we will be collecting any of the following items to donate in the name of our Chapter to the shelter:

Disinfectant Wipes, Hand Sanitizer, Scrubbing Bubbles Cleaner, Lysol Spray, Bone (disposable wet cleaning pads), Powdered Laundry Detergent, 33 Gallon Black Drawstring Trash Bags, 13 Gallon White Kitchen Trash Bags, 1 Gallon Ziplock Bags, Canned Soup/Chicken, Toilet Paper/Paper Towels, Forever Stamps, Bassinette Sheets ( 33"x16" Pac n Play).

We will also be holding small fundraisers as we are able such as raffles at the Lodge during dinners, Dining Out Fundraisers at local restaurants and other creative ways to continue our contributions to the Lodge and Moose International.  Please share any of your ideas with one of our officers on how we can continue our commitment as the Women of The Moose!

Thank you for your continued support,

Fraternally Yours,

Jennifer Barnes

“CRYING TOWEL”

DRAWINGS ARE ON HOLD AT THIS TIME DUE TO

COVID-19 CLOSURE

Moose Rewards Program Extended

The Supreme Council has extended the Moose Rewards program until April 30, 2022 to allow members additional opportunities to take advantage of this unique program. The Moose Rewards program was originally scheduled to end on April 30, 2020 after a five-year run, however, the program kept growing in activity as members took advantage of the opportunity to use points to pay dues, contribute to Moose Charities, and obtain Moose products and services.

One change to the program beginning May 1, 2020: Gift cards and cash redemption will no longer be available due to low usage rates and the desire from the Supreme Council to highlight Moose-related redemption items to help strengthen the Fraternity.

Moose Youth Awareness Parking Lot Awards

Saturday September 26, 2020 – 12:00 Noon

Join us on Saturday, September 26th for a drive-thru for the Moose Youth Awareness High School Students. They will be picking up their Award Plaque in the Buena Park Moose parking lot. We will be honoring all of the eleven students for all of their hard work they did with the 4 to 9-year-old children. The top three students were finalists from the Southern California, Buena Park Moose Association Congress, Thi Le, Tristan Britt, and Jacqueline Reza.

The Buena Park Moose Lodge has a special award, it is the Buena Park Moose, Youth of the Year. This award is given out to the top high school student from the Buena Park Moose that participates in the Moose Youth Awareness Program and we will also be presenting this award. The Buena Park Loyal Order of Moose and the Women of the Moose co-sponsors this award. The winner of the Buena Park Moose, Youth of the Year award this year is Tristan Britt.

FROM THE SENIOR REGENT

Hello Ladies,

I hope this newsletter finds every one of you healthy and well. This has been a difficult time for all. I hope all of you are taking care of yourselves and following the health and protection guidelines enacted by our State and Local governments. If everyone does their part to isolate and distance themselves from one another and the public we may be able to slow down the outbreak and get back to normal soon.

Due to the shutdown the 20-21 Year has been extended until June 30, 2020. Our elections will be postponed until May. Although we are slated to possibly reopen April 1st we should be prepared in case the shutdown date is extended. We will keep you posted as we get info from International.

Check the calendar for upcoming events as they will go on as scheduled once we are reopened. We do have Bingo scheduled for Sunday the 19th from 2 to 6pm. So mark your calendars and hopefully I will see you all there.

If your dues need renewing please go on line and pay instead of waiting for the Lodge to open. If you need help paying on line call me or Linda and we will walk you through it.

In the meantime, stay safe, protect yourself and your loved ones and then we can all be back together soon.

Miss you all,

Your Senior Regent,

FROM  THE GOVERNOR

Hello Brothers and Co-workers,

This month starts off a new Board if Officers for our lodge.  I want to truly thank David Darling for the past two years that he served as our fraternal leader.  He did an awesome job and I plan to follow the path that he has laid down for us.  I know that if I have any question or concerns,  I know that he will be able to guide me in the right direction.  I also want to thank all the past officers who did a great job last year as well.

As you all know, this COVID19 pandemic has really taken a toll on the operations of the Moose.....but with everyone's cooperation and patience....we will get through this.  I thank you all for your ongoing support and commitment to our lodge.

I want to let everyone know that I plan to continue to move our lodge forward and to continue to strive for being the best lodge during my term.  Our board of officers, I feel, are awesome.  We have some new officers that are joining us this year, and are really wanting to be a part of something grand.

Thank you again to all and I am proud to serve as your Governor.

Fraternally,

Mike Conway

I want to thank the new Board of Officers: Denise Bond - Jr. Regent, Linda Either - Treasurer, Gina Hannania - Recorder and Jr. Grad Regent - Julie Nelson, for their commitment to our chapter and for taking a leadership role in our organization.  I would also like to thank the new Guide, Audit Committee and Committee Chairs: Lisa Banks, Gail Bebee, Ginger Boles, Tiffany Britt, Cyndi Kemp, Peggy Nye, Gloria Reed and Heather Williamson for supporting our chapter.  A huge thank you in advance to my family and especially my Mom, co-worker, Chris Barnes for supporting me in this new adventure and stepping up at home when I'm away serving as Sr. Regent, it truly takes a village.

FROM THE SENIOR REGENT

Hello Ladies,

I hope this message finds you all healthy and well. It has been so hard staying home and missing out on all our fun activities and just hanging out with everyone. However, I know this is not going to last forever and that we will all be back together soon.

My term as Senior Regent has been extended until the end of June. Hopefully, we will be back to normal by then and the Lodge will be open for all of to gather together again.

We did manage to complete our See’s Candy Fundraiser, chaired by Angie Slaughter last month. I know I really enjoyed the candy I ordered but who doesn’t love See’s Candy!

Please continue to respect social distancing and wear your masks when out in public. If you have any questions or concerns check the Website or call me anytime.

Please pay your dues if you have received your renewal form in the mail. You can pay online or by mail. We have a link directly to the pay dues site for Moose International on our website.

I miss you all and look forward to seeing you all soon.

Your Senior Regent,

Julie Nelson

Although we are closed for now, please be mindful of when your memberships expire and please renew when the time comes.

Please also keep in mind that everything shown on the April calendar is subject to change due to the current situation. Please keep checking the Facebook page for updates which we will post as we get them.

Everyone, please remain diligent and safe.

Julie Nelson
